LAMBERTZ GODDESS OF EUROPE 2014 – VENUS

SHOOTING Venus by JAMES

The last shot we were to complete with model PETRA NEMCOVA was the Goddess Venus. This was a problem for us as Petra had to head off back to Heathrow from Stonehenge in about 40 mins so really we only had 10 minutes to set up for the shot and the only place we could do this was in the conference room at the Holiday Inn Express at Stonehenge.

We had a background with us which we set up fairly quickly, we were only going to get a 10 minute slot to shoot so we went with the Nikon and the single light source and bounce light to create the outside look. Petra ran through a great selection of poses working with me to get the correct look and a feel, however the major problem was location to drop in in post to create the calendar image.

The location we chose for the background  was in UK and Cornwall not far from Bedruthan. We headed there post main shoot to capture all background images need for the composite

How it all mapped out.

The room was a conference room and the location Holiday Inn.
Not many photographers could say they have photographed a Supermodel in a conference room at the holiday in and only 10 minutes to do this. As the outfit was a little see through there is no background video as Petra would not allow the team to shoot this.

Time Ticking
We managed to shoot over 200 images in 10 minutes making sure all poses and possible looks would be covered and they were. I had to shoot some background images of a shell and other items as the original idea was Venus standing in a shell.

A few mad coffees later the job was done and we were all packed up, Phil and I were to drive her back to Heathrow so she could catch her flight to New York and then we would meet up with the crew at Gatwick for our evening flight to IBIZA

STONEHENGE: The famous landmark agrees to shoot.

In the insert shot below you can see the intimate shoot, close up with the wide angel lens allowed James to work up a great shooting relationship in a relatively short time. Feeling comfortable with the shoot, location and model was key and Petra kept a keen focus and what was needed. She believed totally in the concept and offered her own direction tot he image taking.

In the video

Petra Nemcova prepares for her shoot and you can see James working up the shot with Teamnader. Phil Connor in control of the output for the Broncolor Move. As the model was moving the lighting sweet spot was the face so Phil kept a cool focus and making sure it hit the spot. Its nice to see the professional Petra nailing the shot each time and her cooperation was fabulous.

Background shots of Bedruthan IN UK

The black and white image shows Bedruthan Rocks which is the area that I had been before and would find it easy to shoot some relevant background shots for the composite. We spent the day there shooting a range of backgrounds and the most relevant ones were used showing a swell and some waves to create the effect of Venus walking out of the water.

The original concept was full length showing a shell and her standing in this but in our creative opinion this was not good and not really that believable as a shot and so we convinced the client that closer crop was best.  shots in full at www.jamesnader.com
