[otw_shortcode_dropcap label=”I” size=”large” border=”border” border_color_class=”otw-silver-border”][/otw_shortcode_dropcap]I and my assistant created a street casting opportunity in a completely differnt way. We used Starnow which is an online talent portal. I thought that this was quite an authentic way to cast for this particular personal project I wanted to run with. We had placed a call to action online and a week later we were not too sure as to who would turn up at the selected London studio ( I don’t have my own, far too much cost and responsibility! ) The idea was that people would appear on a rolling basis throughout the day and would each be allotted 3 minutes to give mme their best!

Before each person appeared in front of me and my camera (D850) my back team had taken their name and written them on a piece of paper for holding up in front of my camera so firstly I would know their name and secondly allow me to select the correct person for future work. Over 70 people came to the studio that day, which was a super turnout.

[otw_shortcode_dropcap label=”I” size=”large” border=”border” border_color_class=”otw-silver-border”][/otw_shortcode_dropcap]I had this idea for lighting on the day which was a lot different than normal lighting I use. I had recently purchased for this shoot a very affordable LED ring light from Amazon. I could dial up the power and with selected ISO and aperture there was more than enough light to hand hold the camera, although for most of the shots I restricted myself to shootign with the tripod as this would allow all pictures to have a similar perspective and height.

The ring light was absolutely fantastic (see below) not very expensive but allowed for a super light with subtle ringlight shading around the circumferenc eof the model which allowed for a slighly different style of capture. I actully have the Bowens ring flash which I could have used but I got exactly the same effect and with an £100 LED light source. If you have never used one or dont have one I would suggest for the limited outlay that it is a quite portable inexpensive solution. They come as a battery solution or plugin power.
